Dr. Lawrence Johnson is an Associate Professor of Music at Southern Utah University (SUU), specializing in voice instruction and music pedagogy. He holds a BA in Piano Performance from the University of Wisconsin, and Master's and Doctorate degrees in Voice Performance from Northwestern University.
His teaching roles include applied voice lessons for music majors and BFA students, as well as courses in French and German diction and literature for singers. He teaches courses such as MUSC 1410–4410 (Individual Applied Music Instruction) and MUSC 2670/2680 (language-focused singer literature).
Johnson's performance career includes operatic roles like Rodolfo (La Boheme) and Tamino (The Magic Flute), along with international performances in Munich and Disneyworld. He is a former finalist in the Luciano Pavarotti Competition and has worked with renowned artists like Sherrill Milnes and Tony Randall.
He emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration at SUU, working with theater, dance, and art departments. His teaching philosophy focuses on mentorship, with many students advancing to graduate studies or professional careers. Johnson continues performing with the Orchestra of Southern Utah in oratorio, opera, and recitals.
