Dr. Downey earned his Ph.D. in pure mathematics from Kent State University in 2001. His research spans theoretical mathematics and applied digital forensics, with significant contributions to Functional Analysis and Operator Theory.
His expertise extends to Digital Image Forensics, where he developed Atom 2.0—a graphical user interface for detecting digital image alterations—and has served as an expert witness, including testimony in cases for Harvard University. Dr. Downey actively offers student research opportunities in these fields.
