Lawrence Blume is the Goldwin Smith Professor of Economics at Cornell University, a Visiting Research Professor at IHS Vienna, and a member of the external faculty at the Santa Fe Institute, where he served as Co-Director of the Economics Program and on the Institute's steering committee.
He received a B.A. in Economics from Washington University and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
Blume's research spans general equilibrium theory, game theory, and the theory and measurement of behavior in social networks. His work intersects with broader interests in inequality measurement and welfare economics, and he is actively involved in academic networks such as the Inequality: Measurement, Interpretation, and Policy (MIP) program.
As a general editor of The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics alongside Steven Durlauf, Blume contributes to foundational economic scholarship. His recent activities include participation in the Economic Theory Conference on Prejudice and Stigma, and he has emphasized the importance of welfare economics in addressing policy challenges.
