Lawa Shaban

Lawa Shaban is a Researcher at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), affiliated with the Department of Public Health & Epidemiology under the School of Population Health. He holds a MBChB from the University of Sulaimaniyah (2011–2017) and an MSc in Genomic Medicine from Trinity College Dublin (2020–2021). His current role focuses on Surgical Data Science (SDS), applying big data and analytics to improve surgical training and healthcare delivery globally.

Research interests include surgical training metrics, healthcare education, and genomic medicine. His work bridges data science with clinical practice to enhance surgical access and training quality, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. He previously worked as a Junior Doctor at the Ministry of Health in Sulaimaniyah (2018–2020).

Key publications include studies on surgical trainee exam performance and quality metrics for surgical training. He collaborates with the Institute of Global Surgery and contributes to research clusters like Surgical Science and Practice and Health Professions Education. Fluent in English, Kurdish, and Arabic, his work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).
