Lauryn Zipse

Lauryn Zipse is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, within the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. She co-directs the Cognitive Neuroscience Group, focusing on behavioral and neuroscience approaches to learning, language, and cognition. Her academic journey includes an AB from Dartmouth College and a PhD from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology.

Dr. Zipse specializes in adult neurogenic communication disorders, particularly aphasia and apraxia of speech (AOS). Her research explores music-based therapies, prosodic and rhythmic processing in speech, and cognitive assessments tailored for stroke and brain injury survivors. Current projects investigate the efficacy of music-based therapy components, auditory feedback mechanisms in speech monitoring, prosodic retention in agrammatic aphasia, and stroke cognition assessment appropriateness.

As an educator, she coordinates the master’s thesis program and mentors both undergraduate and graduate students in her lab.
