Laurie J Lafferty

Laurie J Lafferty is a Senior Lecturer and Academic Adviser II at The University of Akron, affiliated with the College of Engineering and Polymer Science Dean's Office and the Music department. She holds a Ph.D. in Music Education from Kent State University, a Master’s from Youngstown State University, and an undergraduate degree from Baldwin Wallace College.

Her teaching focuses on wind & percussion pedagogy, rehearsal techniques, and graduate music education courses. She has extensive experience as a band director in Ohio schools, leading ensembles that consistently earned superior ratings in state competitions. Her work includes guest conducting, clinical sessions, and national conference performances.

Dr. Lafferty publishes in music education journals like The Instrumentalist and Contributions to Music Education, and her young band arrangements are published by Carl Fischer and others. She actively contributes to professional organizations like OMEA through committee work and adjudication.
