Laurie Gold is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). Her research focuses on the impact of exercise, disease, and injury on the endocrine system, with a particular emphasis on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, cardiometabolic risk factors, and sex-specific hormonal influences. She serves as the IRB Chair at UNCG and has contributed to the development of responsible conduct of research training programs. Dr. Gold teaches advanced courses such as KIN 576 Nutrition & Physical Fitness, KIN 720 Pathophysiology & Pharmacology, and KIN 700 Endocrine Aspects of Exercise. Her work bridges clinical and applied research, addressing topics like heart rate variability as a biomarker and the physiological effects of exercise training.
Dr. Gold’s research has explored the relationship between physical activity and health outcomes across diverse populations, including long-haul truck drivers, postpartum women, and adolescents. Her recent studies investigate developmental patterns of autonomic nervous system markers and the role of emotion regulation in cardiovascular risk. She collaborates on multi-disciplinary projects, such as the RIGHT Track Health Study, examining pathways linking childhood self-regulation to adolescent health risks.
Publications highlight her contributions to understanding exercise-induced hormonal changes, the utility of HRV in health assessment, and the design of innovative trials exploring physical activity and genetics in aging populations. Her work is published in journals spanning kinesiology, endocrinology, and public health.
