Laurent BERTHE

Laurent BERTHE serves as Research Director at Arts et Métiers Institute of Technology within the PIMM laboratory (Procédés et Ingénierie en Mécanique et Matériaux), leading the Laser Processes Research Team since his arrival on January 6, 1994. His work integrates advanced laser technologies with materials science and mechanical engineering.

Research focuses on laser-material interactions, shock peening applications, and thermal processing techniques, utilizing specialized experimental platforms including Hephaestus' Laser Shock systems, X-ray characterization, and polymer processing facilities. The team maintains strong industry partnerships and participates in international collaborations like IWSHM 2025.

As a senior researcher, BERTHE contributes to Engineering Cycle programs, Research Master's Degrees, and Doctoral training at Arts et Métiers. His laboratory operates shared platforms including MESO 3D and advanced mechanical characterization systems for microstructure analysis.
