Dr Laurence Luu is a Scientia Lecturer and NHMRC EL1 Investigator Fellow at the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, University of New South Wales. He leads the Bacterial Colonisation Factor Lab, focusing on molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis in Bordetella pertussis and Chlamydia trachomatis through multi-omics approaches. His work bridges vaccine development with microbiome research.
- PhD in evolutionary biology of B. pertussis (2018)
- Postdoctoral work at UNSW on fecal microbiota transplantation for IBD
- 2022 UTS Chancellor's Research Fellow for chlamydia-infertility research
Research interests center on bacterial virulence factors, vaccine escape mechanisms, and host-microbe interactions. His 15 most recent publications span single-cell immunology, biofilm proteomics, and microbiome-based therapies. Key collaborations include Host-Microbiome and Cancer Immunogenetic labs.
Scientific awards include the 2023 Jim Pittard Award and Griffith University Discovery Award. He supervises Honours student Courtney Baker and has established international collaborations through his work on bacterial adaptation and vaccine development.
