Dr. Lauren Dodaro serves as an Assistant Professor of Anthropology in the Department of Anthropology within Mercer University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She joined Mercer in 2023 to establish the university's new anthropology major.
Education:

Specializing in environmental anthropology, Dr. Dodaro conducts field research with Indigenous Kichwa communities in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Her work centers on children's environmental knowledge transmission, particularly how girls gain empowerment through traditional practices like gardening, ceramic-making, and plant identification. She actively advocates for the integration of local ecological knowledge into conservation frameworks and educational curricula, challenging Western-centric approaches to environmental management.
Dr. Dodaro teaches courses spanning cultural anthropology, gender studies, and environmental systems. She champions anthropology's universal relevance for developing critical perspectives on human societies. Outside academia, she pursues backpacking adventures, fantasy literature, and multidisciplinary art creation.
