Lauran Hartley is an Adjunct Lecturer in Tibetan Literature at Columbia University's Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures and serves as Tibetan Studies Librarian at the C.V. Starr East Asian Library. She holds a BA from Northwestern University (1985), an MA (1998), and a PhD (2003) from Indiana University. Her research focuses on Tibetan literature, cultural production, and translation studies, with a particular emphasis on modern Tibetan literary discourse and historical analysis.

Her work spans textual analysis of Tibetan poetry, intellectual history, and publishing trends. Her current research examines literary production from the 18th century to the present, exploring themes of cultural identity and modernization. She has taught at Indiana and Rutgers Universities and holds editorial roles in academic journals.
