Benoît Jacquet is a Lecturer in the History and Theory of Architecture in Japan at the French School of Asian Studies (EFEO) Kyoto, where he has worked since 2008. He also teaches at the Graduate School of Architecture of Paris-La Villette and has held visiting positions at Kyoto University, Hiroshima University, and the Worcester Polytechnic Institute. His affiliations include research laboratories at Kyoto University, University of Tokyo, and Collège de France.
- Education: School of Architecture of Paris-La Villette (M.Arch, 1998), DEA in Urban Landscape (EHESS, 1000)9), PhD in Engineering (Kyoto University, 2006), and second PhD in Architecture (University of Paris-8, 2007).
His research spans the history and theory of contemporary Japanese architecture, focusing on monumentality, cultural transfers between West and East Asia, and material forms of design. He employs fieldwork and archival analysis to explore residential to monumental scales, with recent work on preservation of Kyoto's architectural heritage and nature in architectural design. Articles highlight trends in Japanese modernism, pre-war architectural theory, and cross-cultural spatiality.
Scientific activities include editorial coordination of Cahiers d'Extrême-Asie (2008-2016) and collaborations on Japanese wood construction studies. He has presented internationally on topics like Tange Kenzō's wartime architecture and Metabolist urbanism.
