Laura Wiseman is an Associate Professor and the Koschitzky Family Chair in Jewish Teacher Education at York University’s Department of Humanities (Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies). She teaches in the Jewish Teacher Education Program, focusing on preparing educators for Jewish Studies in diverse educational settings. Her research explores intertextuality in Hebrew literature, classical sources, and modern belles lettres, with current work on sacred and sensual themes in contemporary Hebrew poetry by Sivan Har-Shefi. Wiseman holds a PhD in Hebrew Language and Literature from the University of Toronto and is affiliated with the Faculty of Education and York’s Graduate Studies.

Research Interests: Hebrew language and literature, Jewish pedagogy, feminist writing (écriture féminine), medieval and modern Hebrew texts, and the intersection of sacred themes with contemporary poetry.
Wiseman currently serves as President of the Canadian Society for Jewish Studies and Vice President of the Midwest Jewish Studies Association. Her recent publications analyze Agnon’s satirical works and protest poetry’s role in urban social justice discourse.
