Dr Laura Wilson is a Senior Lecturer in Sport Science at Middlesex University, based in the London Sports Institute within the Faculty of Science and Technology. She joined the university full-time in November 2019 and leads the MSc in Sport and Exercise Nutrition program. Her research focuses on exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD), thermal physiology, body composition analysis, and disordered eating in athletes. She holds dual accreditation as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and an accredited physiologist with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES).
Her teaching portfolio includes modules such as Research Methods, Applied Sport Nutrition, and Human Performance. Wilson currently supervises three PhD students investigating topics ranging from physical literacy interventions to disordered eating in netball players. She serves as the BASES Physiology and Nutrition Division CPD Representative and an editor for Performance Enhancement and Health. External activities include consultancy roles with London Mavericks and peer-review work for high-impact journals.
Key research contributions include studies on age-related muscle damage susceptibility, female athlete physiology, and recovery modalities. Her work bridges applied sports science with public health, emphasizing vulnerable populations' thermal adaptation and school-based physical activity programs. Awards include recognition for her contributions to sports nutrition education and athlete health research.
