Laura Waters

Laura Waters is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Analysis within the Department of Pharmacy at the School of Applied Sciences, University of Huddersfield. She holds roles as Treasurer of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s local section, a member of the JPAG committee, and is affiliated with the Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery Centre and the Institute of Skin Integrity and Infection Prevention. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a National Public Engagement Ambassador, and a STEM ambassador.

Research Interests: Her work focuses on the interface of chemistry and pharmaceutics, particularly in developing analytical techniques (e.g., calorimetry and chromatography) to study drug interactions, formulation optimization, and skin permeability. Key areas include surfactant dynamics, nanocomposite drug delivery systems, and thermodynamic studies of drug-excipient interactions.

Publications: Recent work emphasizes polysorbate interactions, CMC determination, and predictive models for skin permeability using HuskinDB. Her research spans drug delivery systems, formulation stability, and transdermal delivery innovations.

Accolades & Engagement: Recognized as a Fellow of the HEA and engaged in public outreach, including BBC media appearances on topics like haircare and drug formulation. She actively mentors PhD candidates and has supervised over 10 research projects.
