Dr. Sam Maher is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), Dublin. He has held this position since September 2017. His research focuses on biopharmaceutics, drug delivery systems, pharmacy education, and molecular & physiological pharmaceutics. Maher's work intersects chemistry and pharmaceutical science, emphasizing innovative drug formulation strategies and the application of permeation enhancers to improve drug bioavailability.
His research has explored topics such as surfactant excipients in oral formulations, intestinal permeation enhancers for macromolecules, and the development of transmucosal drug delivery systems. He has also contributed to educational innovations, including the use of video podcasts for formative assessment feedback in pharmacy education.
Maher secured the RCSI Research Summer School grant (2019–2022), supporting collaborative research initiatives.
