Laura W. Lackey serves as Dean, Kaolin Industry Chair, and Professor of Environmental Engineering at Mercer University's School of Engineering. She has been faculty since 1998 and holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. A registered Professional Engineer and Board-Certified Environmental Engineer, she previously worked at the Tennessee Valley Authority and as an adjunct professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Her research spans international sustainable engineering projects, including manual well-drilling systems and biosand filters in Kenya and Uganda, and mercury capture systems for artisanal gold mining in Ecuador. She has taught over 20 courses from freshman design to graduate-level environmental engineering.
Dr. Lackey has received multiple teaching honors including three School of Engineering Teacher of the Year Awards and recognition on the All-Southern Conference Faculty Team. Her leadership extends to chairing the Environmental Engineering Department for five years and serving as Associate Dean since 2013.

She actively mentors students through Mercer On Mission programs, leading international field research teams in water access and pollution control initiatives. Her administrative roles include Department Chair (2008-2013) and Associate Dean prior to becoming Dean.
