She serves as curriculum director for the “RaceB4Race: Sustaining, Building, Innovating” initiative at ACMRS and co-directs the DOE-funded Shakespeare and Social Justice Project at the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles. Previously, she held roles at the University of Houston and directed programs like the Teaching Foundations Project at ASU, focusing on inquiry-based courses for future teachers. She also chaired the Education Department at Warren Wilson College and began her career as a secondary English teacher in Arizona and Illinois.
Her expertise centers on educator professional development, particularly in Shakespeare pedagogy and anti-racist curriculum design. She co-authored Teaching Shakespeare with Purpose (Bloomsbury/Arden) and is completing a forthcoming book on interactive Shakespeare editions for Cambridge University Press. Her research emphasizes culturally responsive teaching strategies, digital tools in education, and social justice frameworks in curricula.
Dr. Turchi’s work bridges theory and practice, advocating for inclusive, equity-driven approaches to literature education. Her projects often involve cross-institutional collaboration, aiming to reimagine how classic texts like Shakespeare’s plays can address contemporary societal issues.
