Laura Swithenbank is a Lecturer in Museum and Heritage Studies at the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies, University of Leeds. She also serves as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Leeds Arts and Humanities Research Institute (LAHRI).
- PhD in Cultural Studies (University of Leeds)
- MA in Art Gallery and Museum Studies (University of Leeds)
- BA hons in English Literature (Leeds Beckett University)
Her research focuses on affect theory and working-class life, particularly in Northern England. She developed the concept of 'affective realism' to explore collective worldmaking through experimental writing and cultural practices. Past work includes research at a Working Men's Club in Huddersfield and creative outputs like prose poems.
She teaches on three MA programs: Art Gallery and Museum Studies, Arts Management and Heritage Studies, and Curating Science.
