Laura Shelton is an Associate Professor of History and Department Chair at Franklin and Marshall College. She holds a Ph.D. in Latin American History (2004) and an M.A. in Latin American History (1996) from the University of Arizona and Temple University, respectively, and a B.A. in Psychology & German (1989) from McPherson College.

Her research focuses on gender and sexuality in Latin America, the U.S.-Mexico Borderlands, and Nineteenth-Century Latin America, particularly on how marginalized groups navigated legal and medical systems. Her publications explore medical jurisprudence, reproductive health, and borderlands justice systems.
Shelton has received multiple accolades, including the Helen Delpar Award (2020), a Fulbright-García Robles Fellowship (2001-2002), and grants from the Teagle Foundation (2016-2018) and Georgia Southern University (2009-2011). She mentors students such as Milena Tutiven, Yuliana Tamayo, and Guadalupe Razo in research collaborations.
