Jeremy Paden is a Professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies at Transylvania University, specializing in Latin American literature, colonial studies, and cultural analysis. He holds a Ph.D. from Emory University (2004), an M.A. from the University of Memphis (1998), and a B.A. from Harding University (1996). His interdisciplinary approach emphasizes the interconnectedness of language, culture, and history, particularly in Latin America. Paden teaches courses like Colonial Latin American Culture and Latin American Utopian Thought, advocating for a liberal arts education that fosters cross-cultural understanding. His research focuses on colonial and postcolonial Latin American texts, with notable work on Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and Carmen Boullosa. A practicing poet, Paden published the chapbook Broken Tulips (2013) and contributes to literary journals like Borderlands: Texas Poetry Review and South Atlantic Review. He is a member of the Affrilachian Poets collective, blending literary creativity with academic rigor. Paden’s teaching philosophy centers on using language study to broaden students’ global perspectives and engage with complex socio-political issues in Latin America.
