Laura Resau

Laura Resau is a Lecturer in the Graduate Program in Creative Writing at Western Colorado University, specializing in Nature Writing and Genre Fiction. She holds an MA in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Arizona (2002) and a BA in Sociology/Anthropology and French from St. Mary's College of Maryland (1996). Her teaching and writing bridges creative expression with anthropological insights, reflecting her trilingual skills and cross-cultural experiences.

Resau is an acclaimed author of twelve books, including The Alchemy of Flowers and the forthcoming The River Muse (2026). Her collaborative works, such as Stand as Tall as the Trees (with Patricia Gualinga) and The Queen of Water (with Maria Virginia Farinango), highlight her engagement with indigenous perspectives. Her accolades include five Colorado Book Awards and recognition in best-of lists by Oprah and the American Library Association.

Resau’s academic contributions focus on creative writing pedagogy, particularly within nature and genre fiction contexts. Her work often integrates her anthropological background and international experiences in Provence and Oaxaca. She resides in Fort Collins, Colorado, with her family and a hundred house plants, where she writes from a cozy vintage trailer.
