Laura Purser is an Academic Programme Director for the BA Primary Education (QTS) and Lecturer in Primary Education at the University of Reading. Her roles include governance of academic programmes, teaching across Initial Teacher Education (ITE), NASENCO, and Education Studies modules. She is also the Module Convenor for Professional Studies, Mental and Physical Health: Psychology of Education, and the School Supervising Tutor for the SEND Pathway in Postgraduate ITE.
Her research focuses on integrating interpersonal neurobiology and psychological approaches into teacher education to address child mental health. She explores trauma-informed practices, neurodiversity, and systems thinking in educational settings. Her qualifications include a B.A. Hons Psychology (University of Manchester), PGCE QTS (Newman University College), and Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) status with the British Psychological Society.
Purser's work emphasizes teacher development in emotional regulation strategies, attachment-sensitive approaches, and embodied brain awareness. She leads the Research Engagement Project (REP) supervision for BA Primary Education students and contributes to the ITE and Professional Practice Research Centre. Her EdD research investigated curricular integration of mental health training for teachers, aiming to support both student and educator wellbeing.
