Laura Owen

Dr. Laura Owen is a Senior Lecturer in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Cambridge's Department of Veterinary Medicine, part of the School of Biological Sciences. She is a certified specialist with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS).

• Graduated from the University of Bristol in 2001
• Completed a rotating Internship at the Royal Veterinary College, London
• Undertook a Small Animal Surgical Residency at the University of Bristol
• Obtained ECVS Diploma in Small Animal Surgery in 2010

Her research focuses on urinary incontinence (urethral sphincter mechanism incompetence and ectopic ureters) and urinary tract cancers in dogs, with an emphasis on surgical techniques and pre-breeding screening programs. She is also deeply engaged in negative pressure wound therapy and novel wound reconstruction methods.

Laura's work bridges veterinary and human medicine, particularly in pathophysiology of urination and evidence-based surgical interventions. She has received funding from the PetPlan Charitable Trust to advance her studies.

She is available for consultancy and contributes to the Transmissible Cancer Group's research initiatives.
