Laura Newman is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at King's College London (KCL), based in the Department of Geography within the School of Global Affairs, Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. She currently works on the Wellcome-funded Addressing Health project and previously contributed to the AHRC-funded Mobile Museum project at Royal Holloway University of London (RHUL) and Kew Gardens. Her research interests span the history of medicine, science, education, and material culture, focusing on how individuals interacted with medical practices and ideas in historical contexts.
Dr. Newman holds a PhD from KCL/The Science Museum (2018), which examined germ sciences' impact on the British workplace (1880–1940). She authored the monograph *Germs in the English Workplace c.1880–1945* (Routledge, 2021) and has published in journals such as the *Historical Journal*, *Social History of Medicine*, and *Paedagogica Historica*, addressing topics like occupational health activism and school museums. Her current research explores school health histories.
Newman has extensive museum experience, including roles at the Hunterian Museum, Florence Nightingale Museum, and Science Museum. She combines academic research with heritage work, emphasizing material culture's role in education and public history.
Her advisory work includes supervising PhD candidate Natasha Preger. Key projects include Wellcome and AHRC grants, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to historical health and education studies.
