Dr. Laura Naegler is a Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Liverpool, joining in 2019. She previously held positions at Northumbria University Newcastle and the University of Liverpool in Singapore. Her research focuses on contemporary social movements, activism, resistance, and critical criminology, with specializations in gender dynamics, urban governance, and Southeast Asian studies. She serves as Co-Director of the International Criminological Research Unit (ICRU) since 2021 and collaborates on projects examining environmental activism and extremism.

- M.A. in International Criminology, University of Hamburg
- PhD in Cultural and Global Criminology (University of Kent/University of Hamburg), supervised by Professors Jock Young, Jeff Ferrell, and Susanne Krasmann
Research Interests: Laura’s work bridges critical criminology with studies of resistance movements, exploring topics like post-Occupy activism, gendered resistance to image-based abuse, and the impact of the pandemic on environmental movements. Her ethnographic research in Europe, the U.S., and Southeast Asia informs her analysis of social control and political activism.
Publications Overview: Her 2025 works address misogynistic influencer culture and TikTok-driven environmental activism, reflecting her focus on digital spaces and marginalized voices. Earlier publications include studies on Singapore’s migrant exclusion policies and gendered responses to sexual voyeurism. She frequently publishes in Theoretical Criminology, Feminist Criminology, and Crime, Media, Culture.
