She previously taught at the University of Manchester and Durham University. Her monograph Tackling Stereotype examines corporeal reflexivity and cultural politics in women’s rugby. She also investigates higher education access inequalities, co-leading an ESRC-funded project on socioeconomic disparities in UK university admissions. Branchu’s interests extend to social theory, the sociology of ideas, and disciplinary transformations.
Her research grants include a 2022-2024 ESRC project with Prof. Vikki Boliver analyzing access to higher-tariff UK universities. Teaching includes modules on bodies, politics, and morality; quantitative research methods; and sociologies of class and inequality.
Research Interests: Branchu’s work bridges corporeal studies, gender analysis, and educational sociology. Key themes include valuation systems in cultural practices, the political economy of education, and critical pedagogy. She explores how embodied experiences and institutional structures shape social inequalities. Her work on women’s rugby interrogates stereotypes, bodily legitimacy, and resistance through sport.
Grants & Awards: Current focus on socioeconomic disparities in higher education access (ESRC grant). No scientific awards explicitly listed.
Teaching: Coordinates the Bodies, Politics and Morality module and teaches Quantitative Social Research Methods, Sociologies of Class and Inequality, and DISSERTATION 2. Her pedagogical approach emphasizes critical engagement with sociological theory and empirical research.
