Dr Laura Mills is a Lecturer and Researcher at the School of International Relations, University of St Andrews, serving as Associate Director of the Centre for Art and Politics. She holds roles as founding co-convenor of the BISA Critical Military Studies Working Group and Associate Editor of Critical Military Studies. Her work bridges cultural studies and international relations, focusing on everyday life's intersection with global politics through creative methods.
Dr Mills earned degrees from the University of Oxford, Queen's University Belfast (MA/PhD), and has prior experience at King's College London. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has pioneered innovative pedagogical approaches recognized by awards like the 2023 BISA Teaching Excellence Award and the 2021 St Andrews Entrepreneurial Education Fund. Her teaching emphasizes creative engagement with conflict textiles and entrepreneurial education.
Her research explores cultural diplomacy, war's afterlives, militarism, and security through interdisciplinary lenses. Recent projects include studies on the Invictus Games, veteran artwork, and poetry addressing conflict. Publications span journals like Critical Studies on Security and Cultural Studies, alongside creative works in literary journals.
