Professor Laura Lundy is a leading academic in children’s rights, holding dual professorships at Queen’s University Belfast (Children’s Rights and Education Law) and University College Cork (Law). As Co-Director of the Centre for Children’s Rights, she pioneered the Lundy Model of child participation, recognized globally by organizations like UNICEF and the World Health Organization. Her work focuses on children’s right to participate in decision-making, education rights, and implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
Her research includes over 139 publications and projects such as the Global Children’s Rights Dialogue and Covidunder19 survey. She advises governments, NGOs, and UN bodies, and has authored child-friendly versions of legal texts. Awards include the 2019 Human Rights Prize of the French Republic and the 2014 Best of UNICEF Research Award.
Lundy supervises PhD students in children’s rights topics and collaborates internationally on projects addressing school exclusion, digital rights, and child participation in global forums. She edits the International Journal of Children’s Rights and has advised over 380 institutions globally.
