Laura Loewen serves as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Associate Professor of Collaborative Piano at the University of Manitoba's Desautels Faculty of Music. An internationally acclaimed collaborative pianist, she has performed across North America, Europe, Asia, and South America with renowned artists including Charles Castleman, Tracy Dahl, and Mel Braun, while maintaining active performance partnerships with University of Manitoba faculty colleagues.
Her educational background includes a BMus from Brandon University, MMus from McGill University, and DMA from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Loewen specializes in diction instruction for French, German, Italian, and English vocal repertoire, and serves as vocal coach for the Desautels Faculty of Music.
Her research and creative work centers on collaborative piano pedagogy, art song interpretation, and contemporary music development. As founding faculty artist and Board chair of the Vancouver International Song Institute (VISI) and long-time faculty member of Edmonton's NUOVA opera training program, she actively advances vocal chamber music. Her 2020 co-founding of the 'Dream Big: Music Out of Bounds' conference highlights her commitment to elevating collaborative pianists' roles in music performance and education.

As an educator and ensemble leader, she mentors students in collaborative piano while directing major initiatives including the Harrington/Loewen Duo (with saxophonist Allen Harrington), the Galileo Trio, and the Emerado vocal ensemble. Her work with GroundSwell's Pressure Waves Emerging Composers Workshop and international performance projects demonstrates her dedication to developing new Canadian music and training emerging artists.
