Laura LONGO is a Research Fellow at the Department of Environmental Sciences, Computer Science and Statistics, Ca' Foscari University of Venice. Her research focuses on lithic technology, prehistoric tool use, and ancient plant processing. She specializes in functional analysis of stone tools, paleobotanical studies, and experimental archaeology. Key contributions include investigations into Paleolithic plant exploitation and the technological strategies of early human populations.
Her work integrates multidisciplinary methods such as microchemical analysis, microscopy, and controlled experiments to decode ancient subsistence strategies. Recent studies include 32,000-year-old plant processing evidence and starch analysis from Pontic steppe tools. She collaborates internationally on projects like the cfNEWS initiative and contributes to the Research Institute for Complexity.
Publications span over three decades, emphasizing Paleolithic tool systems, Neanderthal genetics, and lithic resource exploitation. Her research bridges archaeology, chemistry, and anthropology to reconstruct human-environment interactions in prehistory.
