Laura Kuhlmann is a Research Fellow at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral Biological and Medical Sciences, affiliated with the Centre for Blood Research. Her research focuses on uncovering novel roles and interaction partners of MMP12 in breast cancer, including its nuclear localization and transcriptional regulatory functions. She employs advanced techniques like RNA-SEQ, CHiP-SEQ, and TAILS to identify genes/proteins regulated by MMP12.
Education includes a PhD in Cancer Biology (2010–2014) from DKFZ Heidelberg and University of Heidelberg, and a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from University of Bucharest (2003–2007). She completed postdoctoral training at UBC (2015–present) under Prof. Christopher M. Overall, and earlier work at DKFZ Heidelberg on pancreatic cancer biomarkers.
Her conference presentations highlight expertise in toxicology and cellular stress responses, particularly involving heavy metals and mycotoxins. Key studies include manganese's effects on heat shock proteins and ochratoxin A's apoptotic mechanisms in HepG2 cells.
No scientific awards or grants are explicitly listed. Advising roles or lab leadership details are absent, though she contributes to the Overall Lab's research infrastructure.
