Laura Kosoglu is a Professor and Associate Chair at George Mason University's Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering within the College of Engineering and Computing. She is also the Director of the CEIE Graduate Program.
- PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute
- MS in Geotechnical Engineering from Lehigh University
- BS in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University
Her research focuses on geotechnical engineering, particularly clay behavior in time-dependent processes (secondary compression, shear deformation, fault dynamics), soil-structure interaction, environmental geotechnics, electrokinetics, and foundation engineering. She developed a novel Atomic Force Microscope-based method to measure micro-scale friction in clay particles.
Kosoglu's funded projects include the National Science Foundation-supported "Designing Teaching: Scaling up the SIMPLE Design Framework for Interactive Teaching Development" (2013-2016). Her work bridges experimental methods, geotechnical consulting, and water resources engineering planning.
