California State University, Los Angelesمعرفی
Mark Tufenkjian is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering within the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology at California State University, Los Angeles. With a full-time teaching career starting in 1997, he combines academic work with geotechnical consulting, specializing in advanced laboratory and in-situ testing for seafloor engineering applications.
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (1993), University of California, Los Angeles
- M.S. in Civil Engineering (1989), University of California, Los Angeles
- B.S. in Civil Engineering (1986), California State University, Fresno
His research focuses on advanced geotechnical laboratory testing (Triaxial, Direct Simple Shear, Resonant Column, Torsion Shear, Ring Shear) and in-situ penetrometer methods (cone, ball, vane) for seafloor engineering studies. He has conducted funded research for the Office of Naval Research and Department of Defense, designing specialized equipment to measure soil properties like undrained shear strength and friction angle.
Notable achievements include the 2015-16 CSLA Outstanding Professor Award. His teaching portfolio spans undergraduate soil mechanics to graduate-level geotechnical earthquake engineering, with a particular emphasis on geotechnical laboratory testing pedagogy.
