معرفی
Laura Kirkman is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Microbiology & Immunology at Weill Cornell Medical College, Cornell University, since 2020. She focuses on malaria research, particularly Plasmodium falciparum, and serves as an Associate Attending Physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
- Education: B.A. in Biology from Swarthmore College (1993), M.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine (2001).
Her research explores malaria parasite biology, emphasizing genome dynamics, proteasome inhibition for drug development, and epigenetic mechanisms of drug resistance. Recent work investigates DNA repair pathways, collateral sensitivity to proteasome inhibitors, and species-selective therapies.
Her publications span 2025-2020, highlighting proteasome-targeted antimalarials, genome diversification mechanisms, and drug resistance reversal. Keywords include parasitology, pharmacology, genetics, and structural biology.
- Scientific Awards: Howard Hughes Medical Student Research Fellowship.
Dr. Kirkman has secured multiple NIH/NIAID grants for malaria studies, including Selective Plasmodium proteasome inhibitors (2024-2029) and Hijacking ubiquitin-proteasome systems to defeat resistance. She collaborates within networks as principal investigator and co-investigator.
