Professor Laura King is a historian of everyday life and family dynamics at the University of Leeds' School of History, part of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. As Professor of Collaborative History, she specializes in the social and cultural history of 20th-century Britain, focusing on families, emotional relationships, and public history methodologies. Her research emphasizes collaborative projects with museums, charities, and community groups.
Education: BA (Modern History and Politics), MA (Twentieth-Century History), and PhD from the University of Sheffield, supported by an AHRC Doctoral Award. Career highlights include a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Warwick (2011) and roles as Arts Engaged Fellow (2012–2015), University Academic Fellow (2015), and Associate Professor (2017–2024).
Research interests center on family archives, death remembrance, fatherhood, and childbirth. Key works include Living with the Dead (2025), a collaborative exploration of familial relationships with ancestors.
