Laura Kiesewetter is a Doctoral Researcher at the Institute for Computational Design and Construction (ICD) within the Cluster of Excellence IntCDC at the University of Stuttgart. She holds a Master of Science in Integrative Technologies and Architectural Design Research (ITECH) and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Urban Planning from the same institution.
- Education:
- B.Sc. in Architecture and Urban Planning
- M.Sc. in Integrative Technologies and Architectural Design Research (ITECH)
Her research focuses on advanced computational design and construction technologies for novel material systems, particularly self-forming cylindrical wood structures and curved wood furniture. She investigates how material programming enables lightweight wooden structures to self-shape, blending digital fabrication with sustainable architecture. This work led to the founding of the spin-off hylo tech, commercializing self-forming wood technology at scales from furniture to buildings.
She has been affiliated with the University of Stuttgart since 2020 and previously worked at architecture and façade practices in Stuttgart and London. Key associated projects include AP 27 – Self-Forming Cylindrical Wood Structures and AP 36 – Development of Self-Forming Curved Wood Furniture.
