Ekin Sila Sahin is a Research Associate and Doctoral Researcher at the Institute of Computational Design and Construction (ICD), University of Stuttgart, where she has worked since April 2022. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Istanbul Technical University and a Master of Science in Integrative Technologies and Architectural Design Research (ITECH) from the University of Stuttgart. During her studies, she gained experience in architectural offices and contributed to student organizations focused on technology education.
Research Interests:
Her work explores computational design methods driven by material properties, robotics, and natural systems. Key areas include 4D-printing, machine control, self-forming structures, and adaptive fabrication processes. She integrates material behavior and performance criteria to generate complex architectural solutions.
Projects and Labs:
As part of the Material Programming Research Group at ICD, she developed the livMatS Biomimetic Shell (Solar Gate) using 4D-printing and robotic techniques. She contributes to Cluster of Excellence IntCDC projects:
- AP 36: Development of Self-Forming Curved Wood Furniture
- AP 44: ARCHIBIOFOAM
