Laura Ketonen is a grant-funded researcher at the University of Jyväskylä, affiliated with the Faculty of Education and Psychology and the Department of Teacher Education. Her research focuses on educational assessment, particularly its role in fostering learning, well-being, and equity in primary education, teacher education, and teacher professional development. She investigates how assessment can serve pedagogical goals without contradicting these values.
Her research emphasizes assessment reform's societal implications, teacher agency in assessment practices, and the development of fair and inclusive evaluation methods. Key projects include the 'Big Brother' ethnographic study exploring student perspectives on assessment and the EDUCA flagship addressing future-oriented education challenges.
Her work highlights tensions between assessment autonomy and institutional criteria, the interplay between epistemic agency and knowledge systems, and the design of authentic assessment tools for reflection in teacher training.
