Her research interests include intimate partner violence, economic abuse, financial safety planning, housing insecurity, and community-based evaluations. She investigates how survivors navigate systemic barriers and how interagency collaborations can strengthen responses to violence. Her work often emphasizes the mental health and resilience of women survivors, particularly during crises like the pandemic.
Her recent publications, spanning 2021–2025, reflect a strong trajectory in trauma research, with articles in Trauma, Violence, & Abuse, Journal of Interpersonal Violence, and BMC Public Health. These works explore topics such as economic abuse, bystander intervention, IPV fatality risk, and violence in informal settlements in Kenya. The research combines quantitative analysis with policy implications, often using national datasets and cross-cultural perspectives.
Laura has not been publicly awarded specific scientific prizes, but her extensive publication record and leadership in collaborative research indicate significant scholarly recognition.
She has mentored and co-authored with emerging scholars and practitioners, particularly in projects related to domestic violence policy and survivor support. While specific grants are not listed, her involvement in multi-institutional studies and systematic reviews suggests active grant-funded research. Her prior role at the Center on Violence Against Women and Children at Rutgers underscores her long-standing commitment to applied, policy-relevant scholarship.
Though no formal lab or team is named, her work is inherently collaborative, involving interdisciplinary teams focused on violence prevention, public health interventions, and social justice advocacy.
