Laura Jacques

Laura Jacques is a Senior Lecturer in Radiotherapy and Oncology at Sheffield Hallam University, College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences, within the Department of Allied Health Professions. She has been with the university since March 2020, serving as Year Lead for the BSc course and Module Lead for Future Directions and Psychology of Cancer Care MSc modules.

Her educational background includes:

• BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science from the University of Sheffield (2010-2013)

Dr. Jacques' research focuses on the psychological aspects of cancer care, with special interests in gynaecological malignancies, patient information and support (both physical and psychological management), and cancer screening. Her work bridges clinical practice and education, particularly in radiotherapy techniques including SRS, SABR, and SGRT. She has been instrumental in implementing innovative approaches like SpaceOAR for prostate cancer patients and developing educational tools for student radiographers.

Her publications demonstrate a consistent focus on improving patient experience and outcomes in radiotherapy, with particular attention to psychological impacts and educational innovations. Recent work examines end-of-treatment rituals, prostate cancer survivorship, and simulation-based education during the pandemic.

As an educator, Dr. Jacques serves as Year Lead for the BSc Radiotherapy and Oncology course and Module Lead for multiple programs including Pre-Reg, DA, and Post-Reg courses. Her clinical experience as a Therapeutic Radiographer in both NHS and private sectors (Weston Park Hospital and Genesis Care Oxford) informs her teaching approach, which emphasizes practical skills and patient-centered care. She has been involved in setting up specialized radiotherapy services including SRS and was part of one of the first UK teams to utilize SpaceOAR for prostate cancer patients.

Dr. Jacques is currently leading several research initiatives including a scoping review on early menopause information giving for gynaecological cancer patients, evaluation of the Aurora Cancer and Community Wellbeing Centre, and assessing brachytherapy workbook effectiveness for student learning.
