Laura Jackman is an Assistant Professor at the Edinburgh Business School, part of the School of Social Sciences at Heriot-Watt University. Her research focuses on entrepreneurship, poverty reduction, and social policy, with a particular emphasis on marginalized groups and intersectional identities. She contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to poverty eradication and sustainable economic practices.
Her work explores topics such as enterprise policy effectiveness, motivations for low-income entrepreneurship, and the role of health and disability in entrepreneurial contexts. She has co-authored studies on gender dynamics in entrepreneurship and the impact of socio-economic trajectories on business ventures.
Laura holds editorial roles, including co-editing a special section on intersectionality for the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour and Research. Her awards include a Best Paper Award at the European Council for Small Business Research in Entrepreneurship Conference and recognition for research on poverty and enterprise in the UK.
She collaborates with international scholars and institutions, including UNESCO’s Inclusive Policy Lab, focusing on enterprise and self-employment. Her research bridges academic inquiry with practical policy recommendations to address socio-economic barriers.
