Laura Guidry-Grimes

Laura Guidry-Grimes serves as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioethics at Case Western Reserve University's School of Medicine and holds a concurrent Clinical Assistant Professor appointment in the Department of Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. She is also Staff with the Center for Bioethics at Cleveland Clinic, integrating clinical ethics practice with academic scholarship.

Her educational background includes:

• Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religion from Florida State University (2008)
• Master of Arts in Philosophy from Georgetown University (2012)
• PhD in Philosophy with bioethics focus from Georgetown University (2017)

Dr. Guidry-Grimes' research centers on systemic vulnerabilities in healthcare, with primary expertise in disability bioethics and psychiatric ethics. She examines how institutional frameworks constrain patient agency and perpetuate inequities, particularly during crisis situations like the COVID-19 pandemic where she contributed to triage ethics frameworks at institutional, state, and national levels. Her work consistently bridges theoretical bioethics with clinical implementation.

Her scientific recognition includes:

• Kennedy Institute of Ethics Fellowship during doctoral studies
• 2024 Cleveland Clinic Simulation Research Fellowship for developing anti-ableism training

She received the Cleveland Clinic Advancing Interprofessional Learning Grant (2024) for LGBTQ+ inclusive communication initiatives and actively shapes bioethics discourse through leadership roles: co-founding the ASBH Psychiatry and Psychotherapy Affinity Group, co-leading the ASBH Disability Ethics Affinity Group, and serving on the ASBH Program Committee.
