Eric D. Kodish, MD is Professor of Pediatrics at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University and Professor in the Department of Bioethics. He holds a joint appointment in Oncology and serves as Vice-Chair for Professional Staff Affairs and Faculty Development in the Pediatric Institute. Dr. Kodish co-directs the Art and Practice of Medicine course in the Lerner College of Medicine curriculum and chairs the APM Steering Committee.

Dr. Kodish's educational background includes Medical Education from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (1986), Undergraduate studies at Kent State University (1982), Internship at Children's Memorial Hospital (1987), Residency at Northwestern University, Foster McGaw Medical Center (1989), and Fellowships at the University of Chicago in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology (1993) and Medical Ethics (1990).
His primary research interests focus on pediatric ethics, childhood cancer and blood diseases, end-of-life issues, and research ethics, with particular emphasis on informed consent processes in pediatric clinical trials. Dr. Kodish has been Principal Investigator on multiple NCI-funded studies examining informed consent for pediatric leukemia trials.
Dr. Kodish has authored over one hundred peer-reviewed publications in prestigious journals including JAMA and the New England Journal of Medicine, along with numerous book chapters and reviews. He serves as editor of 'Ethics and Research with Children: A Case-Based Approach' published by Oxford University Press.

Dr. Kodish has held numerous leadership positions including Chair of the Bioethics Committee of the Children's Oncology Group, membership on the Committee on Bioethics of the American Academy of Pediatrics (1999-2005), and service on multiple NIH Special Emphasis Panels and Study Sections. He currently serves on the External Scientific Panel for the Cure Sickle Cell initiative at NHLBI and has previously served on the Advisory Council at NCATS at NIH.
Dr. Kodish founded the Rainbow Center for Pediatric Ethics at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital (1993-2004) and later served as Director of Cleveland Clinic's Center for Ethics, Humanities, and Spiritual Care (2010-16) and Chairman of the Department of Bioethics (2004-16).
