Laura Gilbertson is an Associate Professor and Program Director of Christian Ministries at Bethel University, holding dual affiliations with the College of Adult and Professional Studies and the College of Arts and Sciences. She teaches courses in Christian Ministries, Sociology, and interdisciplinary subjects, blending her expertise in theology, sociology, and ministry practices. Since joining Bethel in 2005, she has contributed to academic and pastoral roles, including overseeing small group discipleship programs and chaplaincy training.
Education: B.A. from the University of Minnesota (2000), M.Div. from Bethel Seminary (2005), and an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Minnesota (2021). She is currently completing her doctorate in sociology at the University of Minnesota. Her research explores American evangelicalism, cultural dimensions of religion, race, gender, and justice. She also serves as a Licensed Pastor at Westwood Community Church, excelling in ministry and community engagement.
Her professional accolades include the 2019 Faculty Excellence Award (CAPS/SEM/GS), recognizing her teaching and leadership. Beyond academia, she actively contributes to reconciliation initiatives and theological education, emphasizing the empowerment of diverse ministry leaders.
