Dr Laura Cowley is a Research Officer and Data Scientist at the Swansea University Medical School, Swansea University, specializing in Health Data Science. Her work bridges child health, social care, and family justice research using administrative data and statistical modeling to improve population health outcomes.

Laura’s research focuses on child maltreatment, abusive head trauma, and epidemiological studies, particularly examining data linkage and clinical prediction modeling. Her recent work highlights the use of linked administrative data to address health inequalities and social care system inefficiencies.
She is funded by a three-year Social Care Fellowship from Health and Care Research Wales and leads the PREDICAMENT project, which investigates risks of child care entry and instability using multi-domain approaches. Her publications span child health, data science, and public health themes, with a focus on SARS-CoV-2 impacts and policy implications.
