Dr Stuart Bedston is a Senior Research Officer and Data Scientist based within the Population Data Science team at Swansea University's School of Medicine. He specializes in health data science and epidemiological research using linked administrative data to improve public policy on health and social care interventions.
His research expertise includes statistical modeling, epidemiology, and health data science. His work primarily focuses on analyzing large-scale population data to understand health outcomes, vaccine effectiveness, and social determinants of health. Much of his recent work has centered on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccine uptake, and health disparities across different population groups in Wales and the UK.
Dr Bedston has been involved in numerous high-impact publications in leading journals including The Lancet, Nature Communications, and BMJ Open. His research portfolio demonstrates expertise in analyzing linked administrative datasets to address pressing public health questions, particularly related to vaccine effectiveness, health equity, and population health outcomes. His methodological strengths include advanced statistical modeling techniques applied to large-scale population data.
His work has contributed significantly to understanding vaccine effectiveness across different populations, health disparities by ethnicity, maternal and child health outcomes, and the impact of the pandemic on healthcare delivery. Through collaborative research with national and international teams, his findings have informed public health policy decisions related to vaccination strategies and pandemic response.
Dr Bedston works closely with the SAIL (Secure Anonymised Information Linkage) Databank, Wales' national e-health research resource, conducting studies that leverage routinely collected health and social care data to address important population health questions.
