Laura Brentner, PhD, is an Advanced Lecturer at Loyola University Chicago's School of Environmental Sustainability. Her work focuses on developing bio-based technologies for sustainable environmental solutions, integrating molecular biology, environmental engineering, and policy analysis. She holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering and Science from The University of Iowa and a BA in Biology and Environmental Science & Policy from Clark University.
Her research interests include water resource protection, bioenergy development, climate change mitigation, and ecological restoration. She employs techniques like life cycle assessment (LCA) to evaluate technological impacts and has contributed to studies on microalgae biorefineries, biohydrogen systems, and phytoremediation. Brentner also serves as a Natural Area Steward for Columbus Park in Chicago and holds certifications in experiential learning and online teaching.
Her teaching portfolio includes courses such as ENVS 101, ENVS 237, and a First Year Research Experience seminar. Her publications span topics from sustainable biorefinery design to microbial food production, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to environmental challenges.
