- 2009: M.A. as a K-8 Mathematics Specialist from The College of William & Mary
- 2004: B.A. in Mathematics from McDaniel College
Bitto’s research explores the intersection of mathematics leadership, community-building in education, and the evolution of teacher educators’ practices. She emphasizes the role of critical friendships and rehearsals to address tensions in antiracist teaching and reciprocal mentoring in online environments. Her work also examines the beliefs and responsibilities of elementary mathematics specialists, linking these to pedagogical development and policy.
Recent publications analyze synchronous online learning, critical mentoring in teacher education, and self-study approaches for developing teacher leaders. These works reflect her commitment to bridging theoretical and practical aspects of mathematics education under leadership frameworks. She coordinates the Elementary Mathematics Instructional Leader program, fostering care and belonging in her courses, inspired by Brene Brown’s philosophy: “Those who have a strong sense of love and belonging have the courage to be imperfect.”
