Laura Alfrey is an Associate Professor at the School of Curriculum Teaching & Inclusive Education, Monash University. She is affiliated with the Monash Sustainable Development Institute, National Center for Healthy Ageing, and Monash Addiction Research Centre. Her work focuses on Health and Physical Education (HPE), sport, and physical activity, emphasizing policy, professional learning, and practice to foster inclusion and wellbeing. She collaborates with organizations like ACHPER and serves on editorial boards for top journals including Curriculum Studies in Health and Physical Education.
Her research interests include transforming teaching and learning, diversity and inclusion in education, youth voice, and curriculum innovation. Recent articles highlight trends in social justice, figurational sociology, fitness testing, and intergenerational pedagogies, addressing equity in PE, trauma-informed practices, and arts-led methods. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals such as Health and Wellbeing and Gender Equality.
Scientific awards include the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion, Dean’s Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning, Jeff Northfield Memorial Award, Advancing Women's Success Grant, and a Dean’s Award (2024) for Equity and Diversity. She supervises HDR students and has secured over $1.5M in funding, with projects spanning teacher professional development, healthy ageing, alcohol culture change, and intergenerational social connection.
